Cherbourg
Cherbourg is the biggest city of the Département de la Manche, which spreads out from La Pointe de la Hague to Le Mont Saint Michel built under the reign of Napoleon 1st. Located on the sea side, in a region called "Le Cotentin", Cherbourg has four main harbours for fishing, marina, commerce and navy. During World War II, the town was the first main military objective of the D-Day of June 6, 1944, and many well known historical places of this day are very close to Cherbourg. Its particular position places Cherbourg at second rank of French ports for travelling passengers. More information on Cherbourg can be found at Cherbourg Tourism Office Cherbourg Town |
